CHINO, CA – The Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA/Agency) and the City of Chino partnered to present the 15th Annual two-day Earth Day Celebration on April 17 and 18, 2024. This year’s festivities provided Water Discovery field trips to approximately 1,200 students, parents, and educators on Wednesday, April 17. Close to 800 participants attended the Community Day celebration on Thursday, April 18, which included scout troops and City of Chino’s after-school program participants.
“Every year, Earth Day provides a unique opportunity to consider our actions and remind us that we have the potential to create meaningful differences within our community,” stated Marco Tule, IEUA Board President. “The Earth Day event hosted by IEUA in partnership with the City of Chino offers crucial environmental education for both students and the local community. Through engaging and hands-on activities, participants gain a direct understanding of their role in environmental stewardship.”
“This year’s Earth Day festival, in partnership with the Inland Empire Utilities Agency, was a wonderful display of what we do each day to protect our planet and its natural abundance,” said Chino Mayor Eunice Ulloa. “As we celebrate, we must be mindful that safeguarding our planet isn’t just a duty; it’s a pact with future generations. Together with IEUA, we are committed to ensuring our actions today lead to a greener tomorrow.”
The celebration event featured 36 educational and interactive booths that provided opportunities for the public to learn how they can protect the earth and do their part to help preserve our valuable, natural resources. Students who participated in the field trip portion enjoyed an environmental show as well as engaging activities to better understand proper recycling, the water cycle, water usage, and the wetlands and its functions. The Community Day event showcased hands-on, educational activities, animal encounters, train rides around the park, environmental exhibits, plant and compost education, water-saving technologies, free giveaways, and much more!
“The lessons learned from this event allow us to collaborate to minimize our impact on the environment and encourage sustainable practices, safeguarding our planet for both present and future generations,” continued Tule.
“Providing our younger generations with the tools they need to learn how to build a sustainable future is of utmost importance,” continued Ulloa. “Through the workshops, interactive booths, and educational opportunities offered at this event, we are fostering a deeper connection with the world we call home.”
